Her on screen character may often seem to be the one that needs rescuing, but Coronation Street actress Jane Danson has been the one doing the rescuing away from the cobbles.
Jane, who plays Leanne Battersby in the soap, and her husband, Rob Beck, have welcomed two-year-old Labrador Millie into their lives after adopting her from Denton-based Dogs Trust Manchester – and Jane and Rob, who have two young sons, say she is the perfect addition to their family.
Jane says: “Both myself and Rob grew up with dogs and we had been looking to adopt for a while. We went along to Dogs Trust Manchester and were introduced to Millie as the staff felt she could be the one for us, and they were right.
“From the moment we met her we knew she would be perfect for us and she has settled in brilliantly. She is never happier than when playing with balls, a minimum of two, she loves running in the water in the park and she gives the best cuddles to the whole family.”
Since opening in 2014, Dogs Trust Manchester has found forever homes for more than 4,000 dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages, many of whom, like Millie, were handed into the charity through no fault of their own.
Carol Margieson, Deputy Manager at Dogs Trust Manchester, said: “Millie’s owners brought her to us as they realised that due to long working hours they couldn’t be with her as much as she needed them to be, as she is a young, energetic dog.
“So many dogs are handed over to us due to owners having a change in working hours, illness or death in the family, relationship breakdown or a change in housing meaning they can’t take the dog with them.
“Owners are often heartbroken having to give up their dog and it’s our priority to find them a forever home with an ideal family, which Jane and Rob turned out to be for Millie.”
Jane adds: “Visiting Dogs Trust Manchester has definitely changed our lives for the better. We are so excited about sharing every day with Millie for many years to come.”
